Those death scene markers on 191 were crazy! I was shocked at the number of deaths marked on that mountain road!

It is also a main road in and out of Yellowstone. You combine all that motor home traffic + bad drivers + treacherous terrain and you get almost as much danger in summer as in winter. Beautiful scenery, but it is a long drive from West Yellowstone to Bozeman.

Take the road south for an interesting study in cultural clash. Lots of beer sold in Island Park . . . the longest narrowest town in America and some of the best fishing too. Ashton is where the Lutheran culture meets the Mormon culture with a mix of ranch, farm and vacationland. Bars and drinking establishments start thinning out. Once you reach the Mormon town of Rexburg (home of BYU Idaho), the only place to buy a brewski with your meal is the Applebee restaurant just south of the city limits.

US 191 is one of the most interesting highways in America.
