In the 19th Century the Argentine military formed a skirmish line from the sea to the Andes and began to push the indigenous peoples to the south. Along the way, and through numerous battles the number of locals was greatly reduced, so that today there are damned few of them. Meanwhile, as the nation began to grow economically it welcomed (a la the USA) immigrants from Europe (like Italians and Ashkenazi Jews).
Almost all were welcomed except negros. They were never welcomed and that fact accounts for their small percentage in Argentina. Every nation has its sad tales of inclusion and exclusion, most particularly Argentina. Thus, let us hope the Argentine Pope does not try to lash us with the evils of this political world. After all, the Papacy itself has little to be proud of in that event.
