I think the same thing. Suddenly we are hearing this new meme of “deep fakes”. Sounds like an attempt to switch the conversation about the Deep State.
This is not merely a new discussion about technology. They’ve already packaged the conversation in marketing terminology like they do everything else when they want to manipulate the public with made-up concepts: homophobia, white nationalism, etc.
They are already arguing virtual walls are more effective than actual ones. Next they will tell us not to believe our lying eyes when we discover evidence of the Dems, RINOs, and other DEEP STATE operatives running massive child-trafficking, -torturing, -sex-abusing, -murdering rings.

UNTIL huge lawsuits are won against media companies that provide false content, the Dems will not stop the blatant use of deceit and lies in sophisticated coordination with the MSM.
They are likely projecting their next strategy, to be utilized across the US.

Heard a segment on NPR about this. The technology is very sophisticated and hard to detect. The creators of these videos can make it look absolutely real and have people saying anything they want without you being able to tell it’s faked.
We are entering a period where it will be impossible to tell real from fake in the digital media.
The President could give a national live address on TV and if someone cut into the feed they could make the President appear to say anything from declaring nuclear war to a racist rant.
It will eventually be done in real time and on smart phones. Take a pic, or record a vid of someone talking and the phone will plug them into whatever. Pretty creepy.

Educate your peers about video manipulation. Showcase examples which appear utterly real but are not true. Help others develop critical assessment skills. This will promote immunization against knee-jerk reactions when presented with a viral political attack video.
