I still dont know what a grit is LOL
I thought it was cream of wheat, I mashed a hollow in it, added a pat of butter, liberated it with sugar and doused the entire affair with milk.. Horrified, my southern buddy said What in the hell are you doing?!!
“Those are grits! you put butter and black pepper upon those!”
I had offended his southern dignity in public LOL damn sure putting catsup on steak would set him off too!

Well, I ask every Yankee who thought grits were cream o wheat...

Because really, it’s closer to creamed corn in flavor.
