The wife of Meng Hongwei, the Interpol president held in China since September, has sought asylum in France for herself and her twin children.
Grace Meng and the seven-year-olds live in Lyon, the international police agency's headquarters. Meng Hongwei disappeared during a visit to China.
In October the Chinese authorities said Mr Meng was being investigated over suspected bribe-taking.
His wife and children are under police protection, having received threats.
Quoted by France Inter radio on Friday, she said, "I fear they will kidnap me."

It’s part of ChiCom power struggles.
True enough.But having visited both countries I guarantee you that China has more problems.And more *serious* problems.

Meng Hongwei previously served as secretary to the late Qiao Shi, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee, the country’s most powerful body. Qiao was a rival of former top leader Jiang Zemin and a proponent of legal reform.
However, Meng served as vice-minister of Public Security in China from 2004 to 2018.

It might be the case that Meng was too close to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhou_Yongkang that was his boss at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ministry_of_Public_Security_(China) and that he knows a lot about dirty secrets of the Chinese Communist Party.
