Los Angeles Police Department Detective Ysabel Villegas used to investigate cases of sexual assault and domestic violence. Now, the tables are turned, and she is the alleged victim in a revenge porn scandal that's rocked the LAPD.
"I did not want to be here," said Villegas outside court Tuesday. "This is the last place or the last thing I ever wanted to do and I'm just so sad it's come to this."
Villegas says LAPD Senior Lead Officer Danny Reedy began to threaten and extort her near the end of their five-year extramarital affair. She says he sexually assaulted her, physically beat her and threatened to distribute sexually-explicit photographs of Villegas.
In her application for the restraining order, Villegas alleges:
"He released intimate photos of me, extorting me. He was extorting and harassing me, and then released the photos in November because I broke up with him in August. It was revenge to ruin my reputation and embarrass me in front of our peers."
On Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Blancarte granted Villegas' request for a permanent restraining order against Reedy, calling the allegations among the most serious he's seen in his courtroom. Reedy must now stay at least 100 yards away from Villegas, surrender all of his firearms and deadly weapons, and refrain from distributing sexually explicit photographs of Villegas.
Reedy previously denied all wrongdoing through his lawyer, but did not show up to court Tuesday to contest the restraining order. His attorney told the judge that Reedy is exercising his 5th Amendment right to remain silent given that a criminal investigation is now underway.
"We are not admitting anything, nor are we denying anything," said Reedy defense attorney Mike Williams.
Outside court, Villegas attorney Lisa Bloom called Reedy a "bully."
"Mr. Reedy did not appear," Bloom told reporters. "I think that's because he knows that we would've looked forward to cross-examining him with the evidence and required him to answer questions if he'd testified, so he backed down and he didn't come."
The criminal investigation is being handled by the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office. So far no charges have been filed.
"Revenge porn in California is a crime," said Bloom. "We don't know how many people have seen these explicit photos. We do have witnesses that say they were being passed around among different LAPD officers which is highly inappropriate."
Exhibits in the application for the restraining order include nude photos of Villegas and text messages she says came from Reedy.
"I will post the pictures. I swear. I wlll ruin you," one text message reads.
Another reads: "Stand by for the destruction. Of your reputation. You're done."
Villegas says Reedy also threatened to send the photos to her family, including her son and her husband -- former LAPD Assistant Chief Jorge Villegas. Jorge Villegas abruptly retired from the department in October after a complaint about possible sexual misconduct was sent to LAPD Police Commission President Steve Soboroff. Sources confirm to Eyewitness News that Villegas was surveilled by the LAPD's highly secretive Special Operations Division and was caught apparently engaging in sexual activity in a parking lot with a female subordinate.
Ysabel Villegas rose through the ranks of the LAPD for nearly 30 years before going out on medical leave last year for stress. While out on leave, she was transferred out of the elite Robbery Homicide Division, a move she and Bloom believe may be retaliation for reporting the allegations against Reedy.
LAPD spokesperson Josh Rubenstein confirms that Reedy is assigned to home duty with pay and an administrative investigation is underway. Rubenstein could not comment on Villegas' transfer because it is a personnel matter.
"I have been a law enforcement officer with the LAPD for almost 30 years," Villegas said outside court. "I love my job.... and it's very sad to leave like this... I don't deserve this."
Sin sez: so don’t play with me...cuz you’re playing with fire..airhead humans looking for sexual happiness while being faithless toward each other....what could go wrong? Another case in the ship of fools files...
Obvious crux......
....the detective has no room to become the innocent victim
She knowingly entered into an extramarital relationship without regard for her husband or son
Now shes whining
“If you stick your finger in a light socket, and you get shocked, deserved got everything to do with it.
Will Rogers used to say something like this:
“There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.”
And is not reserved exclusively for men.
I believe that advising people, “Don’t do stupid stuff!” is now grounds for a public thrashing. Positing a connection between actions and outcomes is all racist and hatey and everything.
...advising people, Dont do stupid stuff! is now grounds for a public thrashing.

Everyone is now connected via the internet. They seem to think they all have the ability to behave as they wish and then be shocked when anyone else is repulsed. They have no shame and now there are hyphenated social crimes containing the word ‘shame’. Body-shaming. Slut-shaming. H’mmm. Is there a trend here?
No one accepts shame. No one accepts blame. What used to be standard social reaction to unacceptable behavior is now grounds for a lawsuit. People pretend to accept anything and everything until they are thwarted and at that point, they become as ugly as possible.
And still: no one seems to realize it could all have been avoided by behaving honorably and with decorum. In this instance, everyone involved, including the husband, was happily indulging themselves. Only the child is innocent.
I think I’ve aged-out of this society.
Lesson for anyone....don’t give anyone nude photos of yourself
Just so tacky
Trust me, no one would want nude photos of me. Boiling eye bleach required.
I agree with everything you said.
Ya gotta love the blue states, who’s in control out there?
Like cops and fbi agents, the rules are not meant for them.
If you line up corrupt law enforcement on one side, and the straight ones on the other side, the bad guys win in a land slide.
And Hannity, please spare me about the 'rank and file' in the fbi.
The fbi corruption starts at the bottom and is promoted up through the ranks.
They are not all on the pad, but they use the rules and bend the hell out of the law, to fit their view of 'justice'.
Old, Cold and dripping Mold.
OK, I don’t like the idea of someone being beaten or forced to have sex. But there’s a problem here. This lady engaged in an extramarital affair and allowed nude photos to be taken.
Sorry, I have no sympathy for this woman. As a mature cop that investigated sexual assault and domestic violence she should have known better.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
They should both be kicked off the force.
“ruin her reputation”??? She did that on her own.
I guess the moral of this story is to be darn sure there are no cameras around when you’re honking on someone’s root.
The guy was a nut when they hooked up. He still is. And I would guess all the men knew he was boning her from day one. Cops know who does who.
One of the best ways to invite a violent end to your life is to have an affair.
I know the modern thought process is that I’m supposed to be outraged about this woman’s plight but sorry, I just can’t muster it. This situation is entirely of her own making and she just doesn’t like that the chickens are coming home to roost as my grandmother would say. Stay in your marital bed and keep your panties on around your co-workers if you don’t want to be outed as an adulterous slut. I’ve got no sympathy to give.
Extort me or my family and expect the stakes to be suddenly and inexplicably raised to a level that will deprive you of your natural ability to sustain life on this planet.
