It’s a R+17 seat and the 3rd most Republican seat in the Northeast. It’s almost all rural and overwhelmingly white.
weird and unpatriotic and selfish....

He was first elected in 2010. It’s the first time he’s been in the minority part in the House, and he realizes how useless he is.
“He was first elected in 2010. Its the first time hes been in the minority part in the House, and he realizes how useless he is.”
There is something to that. Back in 2010, the GOP captured control of the Minnesota State Senate for the first time in well over thirty years.
There were Dems in that body who had never ever been in the minority and a number were also Committee Chairs. They were used to lording it over the GOP minority at will.
Within one year of the GOP capturing the State Senate, a number of prominent Democrats resigned to pursue other opportunities in the private sector. We didn’t have much luck picking up those seats in special elections because most of those who resigned were in very strong Dem districts.
But your point is correct. If you’ve never been in the minority before, it takes some getting used to.
Being in the minority must be even more exhausting for someone who has interests and career options outside of government.
He has fought several bouts with cancer. Let’s give him the benefit for now.
I live in this district. Elections here usually trend around 65% Republican/35% Democrat. However, the ‘Rats ran a good candidate in 2018, and he has already declared his intention to run in the special election. This seat could very well flip.
2018 Election results
66% Tom Marino* GOP 161,047
34% Marc Friedenberg Dem 82,825
100% of precincts reporting (569/569) *Incumbent
243,872 total votes
“Another pickup for the dems?”
Depends on the district voters. House seats require a special election for replacements
