I had to fire an employee a couple of years ago. He took a younger, more junior female co-worker to his hotel room for drinks during a business trip, and she left in tears. It was “he said, she said” as far as what happened in the room, but in my mind, it didn’t matter, he was getting fired for being stupid enough to bring a younger, more junior female co-worker to his hotel room for drinks.

If I’m the GOP, I’m not stripping him of his committee assignments because he’s a racist; I’m stripping him of his committee assignments because he’s stupid enough to run his mouth for an hour with the New York Times.

If he said something supportive of white nationalism then I don’t care what happens to him. My problem is it seems that he was referring to Western civilization following comments about conservatives unfairly being called white nationalists. One really has to wonder what is the chance that he would tell The New York Times that he believes white nationalism is a good thing? I think the chances of that are 0. I really regret if the White House had to get involved just like George Bush denounced William Bennett when bennett had said exactly the opposite of what he was being accused. In that case bennett was counseling against anyone wanting more black abortions and it was twisted that he was advocating abortions for black babies. That was a real injustice. I had to listen to leftists who want black babies aborted attacking William Bennett claiming that he wanted such a thing when in fact he was 100% against abortion. So The Killers of black babies accused pro life bill bennett of wanting black abortions. If this is a similar case, I’m really sad the White House felt it had to take this step. But I also have some faith in this White House making a correct decision.

This has been in the works a long time. Anything he said remotely controversial was going to get this response from the GOPe.

Yep. King had a target on his back long before the NYT piece. He was supposed to lose like Roy Moore did after being labeled persona non grata within the party and seeing all of his support dry up.

"How is Steve King winning!?!?" was one of the election night cries that few were paying attention to.

Those other examples are completely different. Don Jr. did not invite the New York Times to his meeting with the Russian lawyer. POTUS did not think anyone was listening when he was talking to Billy Bush.

LOL. So dealing with the NYT is the big mistake. How many Reps have given interviews to the NYT, including the President who has done it a number of times including when he was campaigning and as President. King gave a interview to the NYT in 2014.

Before Trump, Steve King Set the Agenda for the Wall and Anti-Immigrant Politics Check out the NYT video at the link. Tell me what you disagree with re the actual statements made by King.

Defending Western Civilization is not controversial nor anything to be ashamed of.

Not comparable. The President has to do interviews with major national media. Steve King is just one of 435 members of Congress. He represents a quarter of a million people in Iowa. How many people in his district even read the New York Times? Why does he think the New York Times even cares what a random Congressperson from Iowa even thinks, other than to try to embarrass Trump and the GOP?

Should have never sat down with the New York Times, of all rags. Sheesh, when are Republicans going to learn that these bastards hate your guts?

This is nothing more than gope taking advantage of a situation to perform an ideological purge. It’s moral cowardice and what one would expect the left to do, which is to twist and distort the truth.

King needs to spend the rest of his career setting the record straight. Let the truth come out — later if not sooner.

I support King. I certainly hope he doesn’t allow this to drive him out of office.

“White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” Mr. King said. “Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?”

That’s the quote and he hasn’t denied it. White supremacy as far as I know equals racism, and I do disagree with racism.

“In a 56 minute interview, we discussed the changing use of language in political discourse. We discussed the worn out label “racist” and my observation that other slanderous labels have been increasingly assigned to Conservatives by the Left, who injected into our current political dialog such terms as Nazi, Fascist, “ White Nationalist, White Supremacist,— Western Civilization, how did THAT language become offensive?
Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?”…just to watch Western Civilization become a derogatory term in political discourse today.

Clearly, I was only referencing Western Civilization classes. No one ever sat in a class listening to the merits of white nationalism and white supremacy.

I don’t “believe” or disbelieve anything. He’d have to be an idiot not to know that the New York Times was looking for any opportunity to smear him as a racist, and thus by extension Trump, the GOP and everyone who favors enforcing immigration law. So what does he do? He VOLUNTARILY sits down with them for an hour and runs his mouth about what’s so offensive about “white supremacy”? Nah, the GOP has no responsibility to stand with him on that.

What do people want.

Are we not allowed to say the word “white” or “supremist” or Maybe I’m in trouble for typing those words.

Now, I can never run for the Senate.

This is getting sillier and silliest.

I believe him, and thus I think he’s too stupid to hold a committee assignment. If you don’t know that you should choose your words extremely carefully as a Republican who favor enforcing immigration law discussing “white nationalism, white supremacy, and Western civilization”, then you are too stupid to hold a committee assignment in the U.S. Congress.

POTUS most certainly does not have to invite Maggie flipping Haberman into the WH for a formal interview. I recall during the Democrat riot at the Chicago Trump rally she was dripping in rage with hate for Trump on CNN. I have no doubt he is aware of this yet he still invited her for an interview.

I join you in that hope. But it seems the weak sisters amongst us are clutching their pearls and joining the mob that wants to drive him from office.

I’d rather have that argument than try to defend Steve King. I do think there’s a decent argument that Trump is wasting his time with the New York Times, or Maggie Haberman in particular. I don’t see any argument for Steve King other than stay the hell away from mainstream media. I just saw another clip of him running his mouth on MSLSD. Even more idiotic.
