Trump has made no secret of his disdain for NATO, which he once declared was obsolete. According to the Times, his repeated requests to withdraw from NATO have rattled administration officials..

I worked at NATO for a few months in the 1980s. This isn’t the 80s. Dump it.
“Thats unlikely, but what about when Muslim France has nukes?”
And Muslim UK. They have already had islamic RN officers on nuclear missile boats. In less than a decade some Trident II armed boat will head out into the Atlantic with a moslem captain. And Brit launch protocols are historically far weaker than ours.
Think Mansfield Amendment. It was premature and dangerous at the time. Not now.
Yep. Big difference between 1970 and today.
I would do crappy cartwheels around my neighborhood if he got us out of NATO and the UN, and kicked their asses out of nyc and razed the building.
I’m too old. But I fight. Get out of NATO!!
Withdraw from the UN first, and sell the building and real estate in NY to build a nice wall.
If I'm Merkel, Macron or the UK I start to get serious about funding their own defenses, for which DJT has threatened.
Art of the Deal.
The DimoRATs want us to stay close to the atheistic, socialist, decaying Western European democracies all of which will be overrun and Islamified in the next 5 to 10 years. Trump sees what a dead end that is. Hes making an ally out of an emerging free-market, Christian power with strong leadership: Russia.
The namby-pamby European parliamentarians can pound sand. Trump and Putin will save Western, Christian civilization while they worry about being fair to everyone and keep looking for ways to run modern economies on wind, sunshine and unicorn poop!
I cant believe how much my thoughts on politics and government have changed in 4 years. if you had asked me 4 years ago about NATO I would of championed it. today I believe it is a Kanard and millstone around are necks. We need to leave all organizations that take away the ability of the people to plot the path of this nation and NATO does that 60 years ago there was a need for it because Europe was just to weak and the Soviet union with Global ambitions was a threat but today I believe they can stand on there own and our membership is not beneficial to the united states.
Aside from Russia’s nukes, and general aggressiveness in the past, there is another reason we kept a dominant military capability in Europe for a long time, and, that reason hasn’t really gone away. It is, if anything, resurgent, with new actors present (but their presence is not the root problem.)
At least one FReeper (besides me) should be able to figure it out...
BTW, that’s not to say there are not other possible solutions, instead of dominant US forces in place, but, they tend to be quite long-term risky if the basic problem cannot be corrected. And THAT (problem) is VERY tough.
IMO, the best solution is to keep our forces in place, but at greatly reduced cost, with the Euro’s contributing a fair share. And maybe “give up” Turkey if they don’t play nice...
Haha, great read !
