As someone who was born in Bay Shore Long Island, grew up in Brentwood, L.I. mid 1950's to early 1970's.
A lot of people make or have done so in the past, commute that far. Via Long Island Expressway or the LIRR (LIRR = Long Island Rail Road.) I'm leaving out the other major road way's, just to name a few Northern State Parkway, Southern State Parkway, Sunrise Hwy, etc.
My Ex-Father-In law, a NYPD patrolman, lived in Brentwood, (very middle of Long Island) and commuted to the NYPD Brooklyn, 75th precinct.
The 75th Precinct serves the easternmost portion of Brooklyn and envelopes East New York and Cypress Hills.
Presently have some relatives making commute from as far as Port Jefferson, Northeastern Long Island into Manhattan N.Y. city. On a Daily basis, Monday to Friday.
Must be suing for lost wages and benefits.
I was born in the Bronx and grew up near Farmingville. I also knew quite a few people who made the commute, but not for a teacher’s salary.
