Oh boy. I had a run-in (amongst several) at my leftist work in our leftist “community” with an admin woman. This was after the election of Trump and there was so much gnashing of teeth where I am.
She’s not old, but when I asked what was so terrible, she brought up “abortion rights” and that she wouldn’t want her daughter (teenage) saddled with a baby. I basically flustered her more stating that it sounds like she didn’t care if it killed her grandchild.
I should’ve told her to advise her daughter to be moral and keep her legs closed.

I worked for two military contractors in my final years. The atmosphere was such that if you wanted to discuss something even vaguely conservative, both parties looked around to be certain they were alone, leaned in close and whispered. To do otherwise was to put yourself on the next layoff list. Or, to have a letter put in your file because somebody overheard and took offense. I got a letter in my file because I officiated at a roast where everybody had a terrific time and the departing lady hugged and kissed me. Somebody reported me saying that THEY were not offended, but somebody else might have been. Seriously, I almost got fired. The second time the HR manager walked all the way through our huge plant to sit in my guest chair. He leaned forward and whispered, “’Jack’ (a black coworker) reported you for politically incorrect thinking.” (It was a discussion about whether we should allow female genital mutilation. His take was if it’s their culture, yes. Mine was, they’re here. It’s Western rules.) The HR manager suggested I never talk to “Jack” again. Believe me, I didn’t. Nobody else among my fellow workers did either. I’m sure that really helped “Jack’s” career.
