The country would face an economic hellscape if the government shutdown lasts "months or even years," as the president has suggested it might, experts tell NBC News.
The doomsday scenario might be unlikely — the longest the federal government has ever shut down is 21 days, a record that will fall if the current closure lasts until Saturday — but it is chilling.
"We'll be in no man's land," Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics, told NBC News.
If the worst were to happen, experts say the devastating impact would be widespread:

Gov has budget.
Problem comes up, gov has to raise budget.
Government makes problem worse while pretending to help.
Gov spends money on something else.
Gov demands more money to address problem. Budget gets raised.
Repeat n-times.
Disaster strikes, gov raises budget - no money to be had.
Exactly, instead of working hard to prevent a hellscape from engulfing our nation, the deep state bots have decided to take a vaca. May God help us all.
It’s truly amazing. People are so dumb. It’s like getting change back at the store. If you buy something that’s $10.00 and you give the cashier a $20 bill and you get $10 dollars change. Does anyone say “Oh wow! Look. They gave me ten bucks!’’
Contrarily, we may find that we don’t need as much government as we have. Citizens can now take it upon themselves to do those things government has decided they will do. Besides, this isn’t President Trump’s shutdown, it’s the Democrat’s shut down.

I get a kick out of Jonathan Hoenig on FBN when the subject is taxes. Rat-leaning panelists say the government will be generous and give taxpayers money. He shouts, “It’s THEIR MONEY!”
Yep - I try to manage my deductions so I owe between $100 - $500 instead of them owing me.
It is better fir me to control my wages instead of the government. But you can’t fix someone who can’t save for themselves so they give the government free money. not to mention a large refund is more likely to flag your return for audit.
Nothing else is restoring law and order and freedom.
The ONLY people hurt by a shutdown are those causing us problems.
