Hustle, a text-messaging startup that worked closely with several Democratic candidates in the 2018 elections, fired a third of its staff this week.
CEO Roddy Lindsay announced the move via a blog post on Thursday.
"While we are incredibly proud of our impact in the 2018 midterms, delivering more than 200 million text messages to and from voters, it was an enormous operational challenge supporting such an effort; one that required a team size that is not yet sustainable for us on an ongoing basis," Lindsay wrote.
"And while we have an exciting set of initial commercial customers using Hustle successfully, it was premature to aggressively expand our team we need the time to do the research with our customers and build the right product to support industries beyond politics and non-profits."
Hustle, which raised more than $40 million in venture capital funding, specializes in building packages for campaigns to deliver text messages to their contact lists.
In the midterm elections, Hustle provided that service to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, the Democratic National Committee and 45 state Democratic parties.
Because of decreased demand after the election, Hustle is letting 47 people go from its San Francisco, New York and Washington offices.
In his blog post, Lindsay apologized for mishandling the companys growth, calling the experience truly humbling.
I wonder if the employees were told they were only needed until after the midterms and were therefore disposable.
Waa the fake bomber in the ice cream truck fired too?
>>”While we are incredibly proud of our impact in the 2018 midterms, delivering more than 200 million text messages to and from voters
is this the Rat operation that sent me numerous texts from Midge, Cheri, Maddison, (not their real names) etc. telling me to go out and vote for Bozo, er RoBErTO O’Rourke?
They didn’t have the “right” name for my number (not even close) and I’ve had my number for over 20 years but they swore their database was accurate.
Getting rid of the evidence
yes...the company that routinely violated the law when it refused to stop sending me text after text during the election..
I wonder who the primary donors were. I doubt that it is like the GoFundMe for the wall with more than 340,000 donors of more than 20 million dollars in just 29 days. All Dems need are a few billionaires and they have all the money they can spend.
Seems kind of like fake news. “Fired” suggests they were cut loose for some sort of impropriety, whereas it seems they were merely laid off because their services were no longer needed after the election. It’s kind of like saying that the harvesters were “fired” after the crop was harvested.
I think they stupidly helped scare more Female gopers get out and to vote Desantis .
I saw the messages from out of state numbers .
Could be.
Did you save the texts? Do they contain info on who sent them?
They could be 'evidence'.
>>All Dems need are a few billionaires and they have all the money they can spend.
Pssst. President Obama gave out TRILLIONS of US money to connected interests.
The Democrats are funded for a long time.
How much of this $40,000,000 for this Democrat get out the votes operation was just simply a federal election contribution with a built in “tax loss writeoff”?
I still have the texts. I added the numbers to my blocked list.
And I responded once after a few had been received and let them know they were unwelcome and erroneous. they responded and said their list was good. I continued to receive at least one more text.
Don’t know if they continued sending to my number after I blocked them.
Was that the target? Swoony Female Republicans?
Because when they contacted me, they repeatedly believed me to be a woman (with a name unlike my own).
And the senders claimed to be women.
Did Chinese or Russian or other foreign nationals invest in this “company”?
So they’re merging with Grindr?
Wonder if they fired them via text?
Now I know someone to blame for all that text spam.
The damage is already done. Hustle had a HUGE impact in 2018, as did ShareBlue. the GOP has NOOOOO counterparts to either. Thus, as ever...THE STUPID PARTY moniker is well-earned.
You are correct, almost a trillion dollars every year, money which went unknown places. It is discouraging.
If you have the number, you can do a reverse phone number look-up search and see what turns up.
All The woman in the Local Gop offices got them including the woman in charge .
It ticked them off .
They knew it was a scam .
