Democrats are struggling to come up with a way to provide back pay for low-wage contractors losing income because of the partial shutdown, a complicated process that hasn't been tackled during previous government closures.
Contracted maintenance workers, cleaners, security guards and cafeteria staff at government buildings are among the hardest hit by the shutdown, which began Dec. 22.
Unlike the hundreds of thousands of affected federal employees who often receive back pay after a shutdown ends, low-wage contractors are not afforded compensation once the government reopens.
While President Trump is expected to sign legislation that would eventually give back pay to federal workers, even ensuring similar compensation after future shutdowns, contractors are not covered in that bill...

How low wage would a contractor be if they will be contracted regardless of fee?
contractors in the private sector risk bankruptcy and cancelled contracts. Those who contract with the government don’t have the same level of risk of bankruptcy, but exchange it for politically related risk.

I’m sure those “low wage” contractors are illegals. And they are not “contractors”. They are the scum that hang out in front of Home Depot every morning in every city waiting to be picked up by actual contractor scum. Of all the REAL contractors I know, zero are low wage.

He’s mildly retarded and works as a janitor at the Bureau of Standards.

Work outside the beltway and everybody I talked to this week who works for government contractors has a rainy day funds. They understand the risk.
Especially when they miss their kickback payments.
My memory must be going bad. I simply don't remember Democrats giving a rip when people lost their jobs or got hours cut because of Obamacare. There were no sob stories on TV 24/7, stories of missing mortgage payments, etc.
You’re memory isn’t going bad; Dims really don’t give a flying flock about the “little people”, especially if they’re legal citizens.
