Take it up with Newt. He’s the one who said that the FBI, which reports to the DOJ, is “This group of bureaucrats (that) reports to no one in elected authority." Of course he’d like you to believe that so you would give political hacks like him police powers.

No, they clearly have to answer to POTUS. OTOH, Newt’s assertion that they don’t report to an elected official is just wrong. As he well knows.
It’s an unprecedented situation as far as I can tell, and we don’t really know much yet, like who the FBI may have notified, but ultimately it’s up to POTUS to decide what’s in the national interest even if everyone else in the government disagrees.
