As with all commodities there is an Optimal Tax Rate. On either side of that point tax revenues are less than those generated by the hitherto unknown rate.
Wonder if the taxaholics gave that any thought?
Information from other states should help find that rate.

I've read that many people are known to buy carloads of cigarettes in the Carolinas...where taxes are low...and bring them up I-95 to states like New York and New Jersey to make a huge profit. Which by Reefer Madness logic proves we should ban tobacco.

“The Democrats proposed spending plan, released Thursday, projects the state will bank $355 million in marijuana excise taxes by the end of June. Thats roughly half of what was once expected after broad legal sales kicked off last year.”

So legalization is not stopping drug trafficking or drug crime?Every dollar spent on legal pot is a dollar less in criminals' pockets.

Same things happening in Canada. All the leftists pot smokers are complaining prices are too high now that the dealers have to pay minimum wage excise taxes and regulations dealing with potency etc.
