WHY IN THE HELL WOULD THE GOP DO THIS?!?
How about we go back to writing and passing Constitutionally required BUDGETS, which would then stop the need for all of these stupid, wasteful CRs!!
How about Permanently funding Border Security at a reasonable level ???
With each continuing resolution that gets automatically passed this way, every line item in the Federal budget is reduced by 5% from the previous year.
Without such a stipulation in place, we might as well pass this bill and then eliminate Congress entirely.

Which of these Senators are due for reelection in 2020?
It’s a work-around and an escape from Congress doing it’s job, and it is being offered by GOP Senators, some of whom will vote whichever way the wind blows just to “go along to get along” - meaning they represent nothing and no one, just their incumbency.
The title of the referenced article can be construed to mean that GOP bill mandates full fed compliance with its very few constitutionally enumerated, Section 8-compliant domestic policy powers basically to deliver the mail (1.8.7).
BWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHAAAAAAA!
The states need to permanently constitutionally end fed government shutdowns by repealing the 16th and ill-conceived 17th Amendments yesterday.
Remember in November 2020!
I no longer see any point or purpose to representative government.
They did have all the spending bills passed this year, but Trump wouldn’t sign one of the 12.
These people are stupid. And corrupt.
And they are a disgrace to the Republican party, and America itself.
All of them. Without reservation.
They’re Republicans.
Just like Jeff Flake. Bob Corker. Ben Sasse. Lisa Murkowski. Susan Collins. Paul Ryan.
John McTurd.
See?
Just put the spending on autopilot. Swell.
Remind me again why I used to vote Republican?
I suspect they dislike the optics of them not working and receiving paychecks while others work and receive nothing. A better bill would be for them to join those not getting paid. That, more than anything, would probably end the shutdown. But pols on either side have never been known for logical or reality-based thinking.
They’re Cheap Labor Express stooges, except Grassley.
Don’t understand him signing on.
You mean actually do their jobs? The horror.
I do not approve. I want more shutdowns, some of them permanent (Labor, HHS, Education, EPA, and many more). If it’s not a FedGov responsibility listed in the Constitution, it needs to die.
That is an excellent idea. And each automatic continuing resolution should include a one year period where no other increase in the total amount spent is allowed, unless there is a declaration of war or other similar emergency. Or just require any supplemental spending to be subject to a 2/3 majority vote like an override.
George Washington was prescient.
Why don’t they just pass law providing funding and approval for any spending requested by any citizen or group of citizens for any reason, ad infinitum, indefinitely, forever, until the end of time, without debate, and then just disband Congress.
Really.
Is there a way we can start a new country? Is the Vermont initiative still a thing? Could we take over, say, Kansas or parts of Texas or Montana?
