Although the bill would enshrine the right to an abortion in state law, another vote of the state legislature would be required to kick off the amendment approval process. According to the Democrat & Chronicle, another vote of the next state legislature would be required in 2021 before the amendment could go to the voters for final approval.

The Dems just took over the state senate and have a very slim majority. I a not sure if the loser state GOP Chairman Ed Cox is still fogging a mirror, but if he is this is a good issue to have candidates run on up until 2021 and I also doubt that they could get a supermajority in the senate to approve this as a constitutional amendment - but hey, it's NY.

Even the language of the bill codifying abortion shows how far gone the dems are. Last time I checked, only women could become pregnant, but they can’t bear to write a law that might assign a gender to “individuals who become pregnant”.

Well, since he wants legal abortion up to the moment of natural birth, he’ll need a law requiring all obstetricians to also be abortionists since some women might change their mind at the last moment.

Several Dims have admitted in the past few years that they believe in the “right to choose”, or murder, up to the moment of natural birth. Republicans should be pointing this out often.

NYT happily reported on the 30th anniversary in 2000 that New York had the most liberal abortion law, passed by Republican Nelson A. Rockefeller while Republicans controlled both houses of the Legislature in 1970.
