"...destruction of old Tappan Zee Bridge to commence..."


They couldn’t just retain it for cyclists and pedestrians to cross over the Hudson River?
One would think carrying those kinds of insignificant loads it could last for many decades.
It would certainly boost real estate values on both sides if people had an easy way to travel between the two states without needing to use a car.

Where is the revenue in that? New York had proven, time and time again that the people are nothing more than tax payers.

It was a race against time to build the new bridge before the old one dropped into the river. The pedestrian/cyclist idea was kicked around, but realistically, it was a rusty swing set and a hazard to navigation.

There is a beautiful pedestrian bridge over the Hudson about 50 miles north.
