The Constitution sets the criteria to be eligible for POTUS. Releasing tax returns is not one of them.

Exactly. Further more they want tax returns from when he was a private citizen. Don’t think congressional oversight reaches to private citizens.

This is what I've been telling people. Any attempt by Congress to apply additional requirements to hold the office of President is prima facie unconstitutional.

Now, if they want to implement a formal mechanism for verification of the two existing requirements, I'd be all over that.

Not just add Congress but release passport files, military record, medical record, credit reports and school records.
Now we’re talking real vetting of candidates. Oh. And random drug testing. Make them do what job and mortgage applicants must do.

They didn’t have tax returns at the time the constitution was written. Because income tax wasn’t in the constitution when it was originally written.
