My cousin Donna was stationed on a sub tender, the USS Dixon.
I hate sub tenders with a passion, “permission to come aboard” and all that BS.
I found some old orders the other day and USS Frank Cable was mentioned. I had to scan the old brain bucket... Frank Cable?
I seriously did not remember, I remember USS Proteous.
OOD gave me shit on Proteous demanded to know who my OIC was.
I told him I was on independent ops.
He was not amused. skimmer pukes.
Weary of his BS and needing to deinstall my gear, I relinquished and gave him a contact.
Mud the Maggot Mad Dog said, let the man go.
LOL
Years later I heard of Rep Hank Johnsons concern that our presence may tip over the island...
The frank cable was on the east coast back in the day. And yes they were a pita. you had to change into clean dungarees to go aboard to pick up anything from supply.- No poopie suits.. The food was always good but you had to pay for it if you weren’t assigned to it. Bunch of 9-5’ers didnt understand subs aren’t 9-5. and the gung ho marines that yelled “move away from the hall” guarding the nuclear weapons.
I did not trust Mud and he did not like me but he was OK.
Now I have the dirt on him, I trust him more.
