Newly elected Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema refused to be sworn in on a Bible, opting, instead, to place her right hand on a book of laws, including the U.S Constitution and the Arizona Constitution.

The book Sen. Sinema placed her hand on to be sworn in came from the Library of Congress, her office told the Arizona Republic.

In such a context, the “refusal” would seem to mean very little if it’s commonplace.

I wouldn't say commonplace but I can think of at least three Presidents who were not sworn in on Bibles and I'm sure there are a number of Congressmen and Senators who weren't.

I had hope that sanity would reign after Flake was gone and McCain was buried.

I remember visiting Friends in AZ when McCain was up for Reelection years ago. McCain was on a local Radio show being Interviewed and you would swear his views were to the right of Ronald Reagan. What a lying POS that guy was.
