“I remember, back in my day, when we would circle around and around and around a block with our pockets full of nickels, looking for vacant spots, and then would put the nickels in the meters, and sometimes one of them would jam in there, so we would have parking tickets when we got back to our cars! And we liked it!” —Grumpy Old Man.

I can see that.

However, city government is now forcing people to download their app to deal with city government.

Is is progress? Is is more convenient? Is it intrusive?

That's exactly what I was thinking! A bunch of cranky old people here "clinging" to their flip phones. Ironically, 30 years ago, the same people would be going off on those newfangled "push-button" phones, claiming that their good old rotary phones is all they need, thank you very much.

I'm no spring chicken myself but I do embrace the mobile technology. I love downloading and using apps that make my life easier. Banking, paying for things, buying tickets and having them display on my phone, finding the nearest Dunkin Donuts and having the app take me there, etc.

I would love an app to pay for my city parking. I have no desire to scrounge around for quarters to feed a meter and then get a parking ticket because I couldn't get back to the meter with quarters fast enough. To me, that's a hassle I don't need.
