Mere days after Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to “resolutely” defend China’s security interest – a veiled reference to maintaining its domination of the South China Sea – News.au has published details from a speech delivered two weeks ago by one of China’s leading military commanders where he outlined a strategy to rebuff the US Navy should it take an even more interventionist posture within the nine-dash line.
Rear Admiral Lou Yuan told an audience in Shenzhen that the simmering dispute over the East and South China Seas could be decisively ended by sinking two US aircraft carriers.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported that Admiral Lou gave a long speech on the state of Sino-US relations, where he declared that the trade spat was “definitely not simply friction over economics and trade,” but a “prime strategic issue.” And that if China wants the US to back off, it must be willing to attack US ships when they intrude in Chinese territory.
During the Dec. 20 speech to the 2018 Military Industry List summit, Lou declared that China’s anti-ship ballistic and cruise missiles were capable of hitting US carriers, even when they were in the middle of a “bubble” of defensive escorts.
“What the United States fears the most is taking casualties,” Admiral Lou declared.
He said the loss of one super carrier would cost the US the lives of 5000 service men and women. Sinking two would double that toll.
“We’ll see how frightened America is.”
Lou also explained what he described as the US’s five vulnerabilities, and insisted that China must not hesitate to strike back at any of them should a US fleet even dare to stop in Taiwan.

Admiral Lou Yuan, here’s a factual history lesson for you:
1. US Navy ships have been going in and out of Taiwan ports for decades. I know, I was on the USS Hector in 1970. Great Liberty Port. Actually the best.
2. A “bright” and “smart” Admiral would remember that the Americans were not afraid to “take casualties” at Iwo Jima, or Okinawa, or Normandy, or The Ardennes or countless other battles. So, you are either a complete dumbass or you are intentionally just running your mouth and ignoring history learned by most that reach the level of Admiral in the first grade.
3. Finally, one of your own Generals was quoted as saying the Americans killed more than 180,000 of your Chinese soldiers in North Korea. This figure excludes North Korean soldiers killed by Americans.

What has changed since 1945 as far as our sovereign interests go? I would expect the same response from them if we, unprovoked, sunk one of theirs in international waters off the coast of New York or Oregon.

After they sink the first American carrier, I’m thinking a sustained U.S. counter attack of cruise missiles targeting the Three Gorges Dam might get the Chinese focused on why sinking a second American carrier is a bad idea. An alternative would be for a massive U.S. military response against the Chinese ship building facilities/ports in Dalian or Liaoning.

During the Iraq/Kuwait conflict, we had the general who was the head of IT at a large base. We were going to listen into the communications on a plane called Looking Glass but due to hostilities, we couldn’t listen in so the general took questions.
Someone asked him if he was in charge, how would he handle. He said he would address in one day and no Americans would be in harm’s way. Everyone in the audience including the person who asked the question thought it inferred the use of nuclear weapons so the person who asked the question asked for clarification.
The general replied, I’d take care of it in a day and not risk American lives. I asked my buddy who was in the Air Force at the time and he said, those are the people you want when an order to use comes down. You don’t want them second guessing. My guess is the Chinese Admiral is cut from the same cloth.
We have carriers in the South China sea to steam past the Chicoms man made island base to keep the high seas open for all sea going traffic. It’s called international waters.

Sorry, your information is out of date. Checked public sources and verified current tech as of Feb. 2018 is getting close to being able to fire hundreds if not thousands of rounds before the barrel and/or core has to be replaced.

The answer is NOT to sail US military convoys through the South china Sea - although it is tempting. The answer is to sail a convoy of US, Australian, British, Indian, Japanese... etc. military ships through the South china Sea - repeatedly!
