According to the Department of Agriculture, if this government shutdown stretches into February there wont be money for food stamps. And it certainly looks like this shutdown could last for quite a while, because President Trump is not backing down on his demand for border wall funding, and the Democrats have pledged not to give him a single penny. So a few weeks from now, approximately 38 million people could be suddenly cut off from the food stamp program. If that scenario were to unfold, there is no telling what could happen. After just a few days, government workers are already freaking out about having their paychecks delayed. If people are getting this restless already, what will things look like when tens of millions of Americans are suddenly cut off from their primary source of food money?
Even though the government has been shut down, the Department of Agriculture still has some existing financial resources at their disposal, and they are assuring us that those enrolled in the food stamp program will still receive their benefits "for January".

If the law supposes that, said Mr. Bumble, the law is a assa idiot.
And the only time in all of recorded history when the poor are fat!
No way will Walmart and the dairy lobby allow this to happen, gotta have those EBT and WIC dollars flowing. Think of all the steaks and lobsters that’ll get thrown out!
So is the Muller Circus still funded?
Yes, amazingly so.
Food stamps are mandatory federal spending, as in theyve already been covered under a separate law, and they are not part of the USDAs discretionary appropriated budget.
This piece is specifying the end of Jan and Feb.
Of course they will. The fallacy with this logic that will be overlooked by many conservatives and Republicans is that these people NEVER would vote for Trump and the Republicans anyway.
Republicans have NOTHING to gain by listening to this line of thinking.
Happy New Year..!..!..!
Bummer for them, no beer, cigs, or drugs for a while.
That headline makes a powerful case for continuing the “shutdown” into February and even beyond.
Speaking of a wide berth...
Didn’t CONgress or the courts void Trump’s work requirement. Guess the wards of the State might actually want to start thinking about work now!
the farm bill passed and was signed, why would they not have money? food stamps are farm bill money not any other bill.
ahah reading the article more critically... They wont.
Purdue says January will be paid. Does not say other months wont. Money for the program administrators may run out, but not the program payments.
Fake fearmongering article.
I guess the pigs eat too much too fast:-)
In my world the only thing you get is rice, beans, cheese,,oranges, chicken, bottled water.
And unless you are truly handicapped ..only for 3 month.
Unless you are NOT a citizen.
In that case you can have a job..if you want one.
Otherwise everything is “free”!
Start limiting benefits to legal citizens and see how long the money lasts.
