“Most big health care expenses for companies revolve around pregnancies.”
I was always told it was the ‘Big C’.
A company encounters far more pregnancies that Cancers. Any complication with a pregnancy really jacks up the cost. We did a study back in the 1980’s on the company’s health care costs. We had 4 employees out of 1,000 eating up 50% of our health care costs. But over time, pregnancies took the most money.
At large employers the top 5 most expensive conditions are:
Diabetes
Neoplasms (cancers)
Pregnancy (includes NICU costs which can be huge)
Cardiac (obesity related issues fall here sometimes, like high BP)
Depression
This is only for the treatments not pharmacy costs.
I’ve worked in healthcare my whole career and most recently as a consultant helping employers find digital solutions for the above named conditions (minus pregnancy) and time and time again these are the top 5.
