CDC, media manipulating facts surrounding accidental gun deaths
The National Sentinel ^ | 12/27/18 | USA Features

While recent headlines might lead you to believe that accidental deaths from firearms are at an all-time high, the fact is they are at their lowest in decades — but unfortunately, the so-called “mainstream” media won’t report the truth.

As noted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in a blog post on the group’s website, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is claiming that gun-related deaths in 2017 reached their highest level in the U.S. in 40 years.

As reported by Fox News:

In 2017, nearly 40,000 people were killed from gun-related incidents in the U.S., according to the data. By contrast, gun-related incidents accounted for less than 29,000 deaths in 1999.

The report went on to list some of the higher-profile shootings last year, such as the terrorist attack (because that’s what it really was) on 22,000 concert-goers in October 2017 in Las Vegas, which killed 58 people, and the following month when a former Air Force member killed 25 people at a Texas church.

Of the 40,000-odd recorded gun deaths, the CDC said half were due to suicides and just over one-third were homicides — and while any gun deaths are tragic, those figures are still very low proportionately in a country of some 320 million people and 90 million gun owners.

Their definition of a gun death is anyone who ever owned a gun and later died.

My mom was carrying a bottle of wine into her house and slipped. Bottle broke cutting her hand pretty bad. Yup. Classified as an alcohol related accident. Easy peasy.

The center reported in April 2017 that 54 percent of counties in 2014 had zero murders, while just 2 percent of counties had more than half — 51 percent — of all gun-related murders that year.

Meanwhile, 69 percent of counties had no more than a single gun-related murder. The worst one percent of counties held 19 percent of the country’s population and featured 37 percent of all gun-related homicides, the center found.

Fake news!

there were only 489 accidental deaths involving firearms.

the larger figure includes ALL firearms-involved incidents including police shootings, justifiable homicides, self-defense, home defense, defense of others, etc.

there were only 489 accidental fatalities ... always too many but compare that to over 40,000 motor vehicle fatalities

I wonder if they could provide the details on how many gun deaths were the result of illegals?

40,000. The very same number who died in automobile accidents this year. Ban cars!!! Double ban SUVs!

And this brilliant statement - “Ken Kolosh, manager of statistics at the National Safety Council. “We cannot accept more than 18,700 deaths as the price of mobility.”

Just like stopping to pick up a bottle of wine for tomorrow night’s dinner and some old lady t-bones you.

Alcohol related.

Nobody had any booze in their system, but there was wine in the trunk of a car.

An associate of mine had a box of beer in the back of his truck and was cut off on the highway. You betcha, the police wrote it up as alcohol related. At 0800. On his way to work.

Nearly cost him his job.

LOL! So, does the flipping fbi agents negligent shooting get placed in to both alcohol and firearms related? Or just plain stoopidness.

“Journalism 101”...…

Tell them what you want them to hear. 95% of the readers will accept what they read as fact without bothering to question the numbers. Since Trump started shouting “FAKE NEWS”, people are doing their homework now.

No question about 40,000, just more “fake news’.

The national insurance agency says 1/4 of all accidents are caused by someone texting. One fourth!

I posted that to someone (not FR) and got hollered at. Thought the guy was more conservative so it was enlightening. Here’s one link to the numbers - https://www.hg.org/legal-articles/texting-while-driving-40319

One in four gun owners hasn’t shot anyone.
