The ministry, which did not specify which flights had been threatened, added that Syrian air defenses had destroyed 14 of 16 Israeli missiles launched by six F-16 jets against unspecified targets near Damascus on Tuesday. “Provocative acts by the Israeli Air Force endangered two passenger jets when six of their F-16s carried out airstrikes on Syria from Lebanese airspac,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement carried by the Russia Today news outlet.

Yep, which is the main reason the Russians cringe whenever Israel strikes Syria — it shows Russian equipment to be clearly inferior. And has for decades.

Besides, from KAL Flight 007 to Malaysia Airlines MH17, they don’t have much virtue to preach from re:taking down passenger planes to begin with.

How much rah rah rah yay Israel would there be around here if they had greased a civilian passenger jet on Christmas? Understanding that it is a congested region with many flights at any given time, it is entirely unrealistic and asisine to say that anyone getting on a civilian passenger plane nearly anywhere in the ME, northwestern Africa or the western med should plan on potentially being shot at by Israel.

On Tuesday morning, the Boeing 747 of Iranian airline Fars Air Qeshm, which is affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, took off from Tehran International Airport (THR) to Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA). At 5:30pm, the plane took off for Damascus International Airport where it landed shortly after 7:45 pm. The plane was apparently used to transport military equipment to the Syrian army and Hezbollah....
