You are so right.
I see car pulled over and the police cars strobes are blindingly bright when it's dark.
What exactly is “sharing the road” supposed to mean? What is it in technical terms? I’ve never had it explained to me and on the main road of my closest Metropark, the cyclists sometimes ride three and four abreast and in packs ahead in the lane I’m in (sometimes marked with a double-yellow line in the center (no passing zone) for up to a mile or more...So, what is it with these cyclists who seem to feel entitled to impede regular vehicular traffic? Is it me or do they really believe that they now reign ‘supreme’ over regular vehicle traffic?
The death of this officer was a tragedy and should not have happened. And of course the truck driver should not have been driving impaired. But I just can’t help thinking that if the officer had the disco lights on they very well could have been an additional negative factor that might have made a difference whether this accident happened or not. Like I mentioned, it happens far too often and the drivers are completely sober GOOD drivers. Really wish they would reassess this factor, it is working opposite of what it is supposed to.
Dont understand that at all myself. They are also putting the driver in danger. Once had a police officer ask me why I did not pull over right away. Told him it was not safe. He said, well the law says blah, blah blah. Well, the law just killed that officer.
just damn. Don’t know what to say
Assuming of course she had pulled someone over in an area without a shoulder. If she was just there protecting others, then an entirely different story.
Detroit is now run by Islamics who reject cause and effect.
The death of any pedestrian was ordered by Allah, not caused by the offending car’s driver.
Revenue stops on major roadways are dangerous for everyone. Taxing $200-$500 a stop can cause average people to make budget trades of what little discretionary funds they have. Wages have stagnated over the last 25 years yet ticket revenue costs are way up there now.
I have no respect for revenue cops. Sorry. If their job is to drive around and extort money from the citizens then those cops arent needed. Rape, theft, murder, home invasions, drugs need cops. Odd. Ask any cop and they know who the criminals are. Instead half the cops are extortion positions. Piss on them. Pull the drunks over next time.
That theory has a flip side. We do not know why she was making the stop. It could have been to assist in an emergency or to stop another impaired driver from possibly running over innocent people. It is also possible that since she never got out of the patrol car, it happened fast before she had time to accomplish the stop needs.
Everyone takes a chance on the roadways from idiots that shouldn’t be out there. This is why the cops are. I hope they catch every one. But allowing a criminal or impaired driver to make a decision on driving to the first available turnout, can get others killed. And if the officer came across a medical problem, possibly life threatening, asking the car to move to a “safe” place is not an option. She made a trained, calculated decision. She may have saved lives by doing it.

FDA approved and Doctor recommended makes it all hunky-dory.
Bravo Sierra.
Took 24 posts before one of the cop hating nazis popped up.
That doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Depending on what he was on, he may not have been qualified to drive even if prescribed by a doctor, and probably didn’t notify his supervisor of this.

If the doctor did sign a declaration, the doctor may end up losing his/her license to practice.
Even the anti-smoking drug Chantix will disqualify you.
Sure it was. /sarc
Traffic stop. Doesnt sound like an emergency or breakdown. Any driver being stopped has a police escort with lights. Driving to the next turnout at this safer then stopping roadside and owning yourself to every impaired
Driver that goes flying by.
This was a case of getting killed to issue a ticket.
I was wondering about that because I had a friend who used to take new cars and install these systems as a third party service to LE agencies. He said there were quite a few options as for which ones to turn on or off Etc.
And since it looks like they are all LED systems now maybe they can indeed cut the intensity. If this is the case, then a photo cell should be implemented as mandatory for the rear facing lights to auto dim at night if these officers won’t do it themselves.
It really is an unnecessary added danger to themselves and the public to be blinding oncoming traffic at night like this.
This has happened to me too. “why were you “running” from me?”. What? Why did you just make me out to be a fleeing bank robber (with a wife and three kids) because I was finding a safer place to pull over?
“Driving to the next turnout at this safer then stopping roadside and owning yourself to every impaired
Driver that goes flying by.”
You may not be seeing in the article that the pickup may not have been stopped off the road. According to the article the stop was made and the patrol car was struck “in” the right lane and pushed into the pickup in front of it. But the article, and anything I can find, does not indicate if the pickup was moving or even running at the time of the arrival of the police officer in the middle of the afternoon.
People doing stupid stuff on the roadways get more people killed than almost anything else daily. My wife was an insurance fleet manager tester of programs for a major insurance company and ran across this one.
Back in the late 80’s, a man was celebrating a little strong with associates in a bar near the office he worked at close to the Cow Palace in San Francisco off 101. He drank too much. He got into his car, and started driving north and was pulled by a city cop just south of the right hand turn into San Francisco. They were off the right side of the road talking and just as the officer was starting to do a field sobriety test, an accident occurred right in front of them. The officer went to a car immediately in front that had injuries. The drunk stood there for a few minutes, and as the cop didn’t come back, he got into the car and left. Of course when he got home he was sick as a dog and his wife was pissed.
He stayed down all day Saturday hung over, and was starting to recover on Sunday when the police knocked on the front door. They asked the wife, who answered, if husband was home and she said yes and that he was sick. They then asked if he had been sick all weekend and she said yes. They next asked to have her open her garage so they may check the car. She say sure, and got the surprise of her life.
The husband had been so drunk when he left the accident scene he drove off in the police car, lights running, and drove home. And he was so far gone when he parked the car he left the lights running and the battery was dead.
People will do stupid things out there. The articles I found on the crash didn’t give enough info to determine what actually happened concerning the stop scenario that claimed the life of the officer. But there must have been a reason she parked in the right lane where she was subject to the drugged truck driver to hit her. They’re better trained than that and don’t want to get hit either. I was an SP cop in the military as part of my jobs there. I don’t assume anything as I have seen some really stupid things accomplished.

the truck driver was driving too fast is he couldn't slow down and stop in time, right lane or not....
one is supposed to know what's going on in front of him....
