GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A West Michigan native who recently moved to Colorado said she and her husband got a firsthand look at the effects of the government shutdown.
Leeann Sadler, who is originally from Grand Rapids, planned to visit several national parks with her husband. The government shutdown is taking a toll on those plans.
Sadler told 24 Hour News over FaceTime that she and her husband planned their trip six months ago.
"We didn't know that the governrment shutdown would affect the national parks like this because there is that notion that a federal shutdown doesn't really affect us in any way," Sadler said.
Sadler and her husband were in Arizona on Sunday. It was day two of their 10-day excursion.
"It's just really disappointing to see kids get really excited for national parks and to go on hikes and be outside and have them look at locked gates. That was really disappointing to see families today."
Sadler and her husband already pre-paid for their upcoming campsites.
However, she said that some of the employees in charge of campsite reservations are off the job until further notice.
They're just hoping things are figured out before Jan. 1.

I remember the wun’s spoiled brat reactions on monuments and parks.
If it were possible to convert the sheer amount and intensity of hate for the wun, that’d power a town or two.
LOL! free loogie!
Yup.
“Are the reindeer rides at Yellowstone still open?”
No, they’re closed.
Pretty sure we can arrange a Bison ride for you though.
So glad they hadn’t planned to view Mt. Rushmore during the Obama shutdown....Obama went to great lengths to block even views of a lot of areas yet these idiots “had no idea of how a shutdown might affect....”
We should base national policy on your VACATION plans?????
Lose the stupid Indiana Jones hats and the ugly wife!
