WH budget chief Mulvaney: Pelosi stalling negotiations; shutdown could last into 2019
The National Sentinel ^ | 12/23/18 | USA Features

Because Democrats politicize everything, it’s very likely that the current government shutdown could last into 2019, according to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Mick Mulvaney, who is also the incoming Acting White House chief of staff.

In an interview with “Fox News Sunday,” Mulvaney said that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who will likely reclaim the Speaker’s gavel in a few weeks, is intentionally stalling efforts to negotiate and resolve the partial shutdown, which began at midnight Saturday and affects one-quarter of the federal workforce.

Mulvaney also insisted that POTUS Donald Trump “refuses to go along to get along” and is not coming off his demands for $5 billion in border security funding that would include construction of a portion of his long-sought wall.

>> We know it’s just the start

Actually, if he gets anything it’s the last amount he gets.

He’ll have a Democrat House that will be under a lot of pressure from its base to impeach him, and he may well get impeached.

There is a very good chance they’ll vote to impeach him if he shuts down the government to get further funding for a wall.

What percentage of the government is shutdown and what is the total budgeted cost of that part?

Can we list the twenty most critical functions that are shutdown and the estimated budget cost of each?

If the democrats want these portions funded and reopened, maybe we can deal on at least half. I don’t know the total cost they’re demanding, but it’s no doubt a very large number. If the total budget cost they’re demanding is $200 billion or more (for example), I’d think that the president may let them cut a small percentage, say 3% - 5% out of each dept’s budget and allocate that amount to the wall.

The Democrats rolled President Bush (no new taxes). They want to do the same with President Trump.

This is in their play book. They want to force President Trump to make a deal (with only a promise of some future funding) and the second it is signed they will be on the campaign trail saying the President is a liar, he broke his promise to the American people.

I think President Trump is smart enough to figure this out on his own. We will see what we will see.

We will sob stories about businesses effected by the shut down.

The only difference is that a whole bunch of people just got a paid vacation.

“2019? Shutdown can go to 2020 or even till the next elections as far as I am concerned. Under no circumstances should there be a surrender on border wall funding.”

When does the continuing resolution for the budget end? Go all the way to that point.

But would freepers here like seeing an agreement of around 3 billion for now? We know it’s just the start of the 25 for full wall funding.

This FReeper most certainly would NOT!!! $5billion or nuthin'. The gvt can stay shutdown for all of 2019 if needed.

It's interesting that AFAIK, neither Nancy nor Chuckles has said anything about the Go Fund Me Wall.

I found a list of the agency’s affected by the 2013 shutdown here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_agencies_affected_by_the_United_States_federal_government_shutdown_of_2013

Surely we can find $5 billion to cut out of the hundreds of billions the democrats are demanding for all these bloated departmental budgets and allocate it to the wall. Maybe permanently furlough a small percentage of the non-essential personnel?

Then the crisis will be over and we can all go home happy and the government and the congress can go back to work. Hmmmmm... on the other hand.

And how many past budgets, within the past year, was it dropped. Three. No, Trump has already compromised.

Reviewing the list now.

I’d start by offering to cut:

100% of the Department of Agriculture
100% of the Department of Commerce
100% of the Department of Education
100% of the Department of Energy
100% of the Department of Health and Human Services
100% of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
100% of the Food and Drug Administration
100% of the National Institutes of Health
100% of the Department of Housing and Urban Development
100% of the Department of Labor
100% of the Department of Transportation
100% of the Environmental Protection Agency
100% of the Federally funded research and development centers
100% of the General Services Administration
100% of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
100% of the National Archives
100% of the National Labor Relations Board
100% of the National Science Foundation
100% of the National Transportation Safety Board
100% of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
100% of the Office of Special Counsel
100% of the Small Business Administration
100% of the Smithsonian Institution

And I’m sure there’s plenty of room to cut in departments not listed.

If any of the functions listed above to be cut are truly needed and necessary—AND are powers expressly delegated to the United States by the Constitution—they can be greatly reduced and included in the dept of defense or interior, etc, and or returned to the states or to the people per the tenth amendment.

Now waiting for Nancy and Chuckie’s counter offer.

When the new House members are sworn in Jan. 3 the loathsome leftist Nancy Pelosi will become Speaker of the House. If this current bill is not passed by both houses and signed into law before the current Congress ends its term then a new bill has to be created and the Pelosicrats will have much more control over that process.

Reportedly Kushner, Mulvaney and Pence offered the $1.6B figure to stave off the shutdown—but the House GOP forced them to stick to $5B.
