Didn’t Canada’s immigration laws used to require that immigrants possess enough money that they would not have to rely on the welfare programs there?
On the entry requirements to Canada. I remember in 1955, I was to told I had to have $150 prior to landing. Wage in Nova Scotia when I set foot in Canada was about $50 per week. I was told by a councillor there - either get a job or go somewhere else.
Fair enough. They would flay such a councillor at manpower today- if that was said to a visible minority person.
