Me too, and Trump shouldn’t have to answer. He had Bolton right there, and Bolton couldn’t answer, and should have been able to. That’s not a good thing - and Trump instantly knew it! And then dealt with it.
A President should always know why he has troops deployed in a foreign country. He is the CiC and that involves high level strategy.
I don't believe the account. I think the author just wanted to make Trump look bad. Trump did not just scratch his head and say "why ARE we in Syria?" based on a question from Turkey that he couldn't answer and then suddenly pull troops out. He certainly had a plan.
