This will continue to be a weekly post in the next Congress.
The current Congress confirmed 85 judges:
53 District Court judges
30 Circuit Court judges
2 Supreme Court justices
All existing nominations will expire on January 3rd and will have to be renominated by the President.
The newly constituted Senate Judiciary Committee, with Lindsey Graham as chairman, an extra republican seat, and Jeff Flake gone, should be able to run through those nominations fairly quickly, especially the ones who had already made it to the floor.
Orrin Hatch will also be gone from the committee, so three new senators will be added. It will be interesting to see who they end up being (please not Romney! He's not a lawyer).
The committee will also be approving the new attorney general, and hopefully after that, a new deputy attorney general!
So expect a lot of action relating to the laws next Congress.
Also, Ruth Bader Ginsburg contines to be in poor health and may not be able to take the workload anymore.
Till then, a Merry Christmas to all! Been an eventful two years.
Thank you for this most helpful update. While some of us are conscious of the progress of individual appointments, the numerical tally puts things into a nice perspective. Looking forward to some interesting battles next Congress. “Once in love with Amy, always in love with Amy. . .”
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, will only step down if Prez Trump loses 2020 or she passes away. IMO
The reports I've read seem to indicate a simular condition.
I think we're gettin' another Super in a year.
LET the enemy have the House for a couple of years, If the Supers are of the right make-up, they can bring a LOT of America back and stop or shunt the destruction of our nation before Satan can have his way.
Flake Effect.
I think McConnell said this year a Supreme Court Justice should not be approved in an election year. I think that means Trump would need to get the judge this year.
are all 143 vacancies to be filled by Trump? 70 nominees did not get confirmed?

Pending Nominations 61
32 pending in committee
29 pending on Senate floor
On March 21, President Trump nominated, his first lower court nominee, Amul Thapar, to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He was confirmed on May 25. Since then, the president has submitted dozens of nominations in waves, with as many as a dozen announced at one time. The number of vacancies, which skyrocketed, from 45 to 103 during the 114th Congress, has continued to climb this Congress. With the number of vacancies hovering around 140 since the end of last summer, the judiciary has been forced to conduct its business with over 15% of authorized Article III lower court judgeships are vacant.
My single question is: How many more judges are awaiting the Senate to approve them for their positions?
Soros’ protege strikes again.
You’re incorrect. The Biden rule is in effect when the President and Senate are of different parties during a presidential election year. In 2020, both the Presidency and the Senate will be GOP.
Yeah, I was wrong, he said the opposite in an Oct. 18,2018 article.
