The problem is that Trump claimed the shutdown in front of cameras. The attempt to apply blame where it belongs won't succeed because there's video.

Schumer and Pelosi have demanded that I break my Oath and promise to the American people and to God. I cannot. That is a line in the sand to me. I swore to protect the citizens of the United States and to uphold the laws of this nation.
If fulfilling my vows means I am to blame for shutting down the government then so be it. They are ignoring their oath of office, lawbreakers, and don’t seem to care about protecting the American people. We need to stop the illegals coming into this country (10’s of thousands each month), we also - like Ellis Island - need to have them come in legally, at proper points of entry, and in an orderly, controlled, manner.
IF we do not obey and enforce the laws that have been put in place this will create chaos, hatred, danger, and division in our country.
I know. I know. But it is still amusing to watch all these politicians play these games. Trump and Cruz are using dem style tactics back on them. Kind of different. At least they are not cowering in fear like previous Republicans.
