The European Union announced on Thursday it would commit a further 20 million ($23 million) to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in 2019, i24news reports.
This will bring the EUs contribution to 153 million, which is in line with how much the US contributed to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees in 2017.
The United States, the largest single contributor to UNRWA, announced in August that it would end its $350 million a year funding for the agency, describing the organization as an irredeemably flawed operation.
That announcement followed a previous US announcement in January that it would cut some of its funding to UNRWA due to a need to undertake a fundamental re-examination of the organization, both in the way it operates and the way it is funded.
The EU became UNRWAs single largest donor after the US cut off its funding to the agency.
Johannes Hahn, EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, said on Thursday that the EU was working with UNRWA to intensify fundamental reforms and tackle its recurrent financial deficit.

A spigot hooked up to the American tax payer. a scam like climate change and solar energy,
Good. Now let the EU globalists fund the entire UN and host it as well.
So they can use it as a bigger weapon against the USA than the USSR did?
The UN should not exist. It was set up by Alger Hiss as an anti-US abomination from the very start; the way he designed its charter was directly inspired by the USSR’s constitution.
Something to entertain myself with this weekend.
” So they can use it as a bigger weapon against the USA than the USSR did? “
They can’t do squat, we should flip the UN the bird at every opportunity.
Good on you! Not many know the treasonous actions of Alger Hiss in birthing the UN.
GOOD.

Contrary to what may be said elsewhere, or indeed right in this topic:
The United States, the largest single contributor to UNRWA, announced in August that it would end its $350 million a year funding for the agency, describing the organization as an irredeemably flawed operation... The EU became UNRWAs single largest donor after the US cut off its funding to the agency.
BIG win for American taxpayers...
For those don’t know the United Nations has and have run many refugee relief organization to help provide food and medication and political support to refugees. UNRWA was set up specifically for Palestinians, and it is the only organization that considers the great-great-grandchildren of refugees as refugees.
Think about that. If you have a great-great grandparent who fled the Russian revolution, would you consider yourself a refugee? UNRWA contributes to the problems in the middle east. First, after Israel declared independence and the 7 Arab armies invaded, refugee camps were set up in many neighboring countries like Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt (mostly in Gaza) where the Arabs moved temporarily to get out of the way so that the Arab armies could invade and kill the Jews. The Arabs lost the war.
Now if you are a dirt-poor Arab living in Jordan and you see a camp where free food, medicine, shelter is being provided would you be tempted maybe to claim you are a refugee so you could get this bounty? By now, 70 years later, these refugee camps are actually full-blown cities with multi-story apartments, commercial centers, etc.
But worse than the fact that there may be large numbers of fake refugees (and their many descendants) living in these refugee cities is the fact that these host countries mostly refuse to integrate the people. Jordan eventually did give them citizenship, and Egypt after Camp David renounced the territory that is now Gaza because they did not want the Palestinian ‘problem’ and left it to become a thorn in Israel’s side.
Funny how Europe and America are expected to absorb millions of refugees but these other countries keep them segregated. In Lebanon for example, the people in the refugee camps are not allowed to get government jobs or higher education. So you have generations of poor, under-educated and unskilled people living segregated from the Lebanese population. The Palestinians led by Arafat eventually sparked the Lebanese civil war.
But anyway the point is, UNRWA may in fact help individual people but as a group serves the interests of the war(s) against Israel and instability in the middle east. Their policy to recognize the descendants of refugees as refugees serves the interests of the Arab leaders who don’t want to integrate the populations and use it as a weapon and negotiating leverage against Israel - thus the “resettlement of refugees” issue is part of the Israel/Palestinian negotiations. If the UN applied the standard policies of not recognizing descendants of refugees and demanded that the host countries integrate the refugees there would be much more stability and we could have avoided a lot of violence over the decades. There might have already been peace. The Palestinians have served as a tool by nearly every Arab country as a means to keep the war against Israel alive.
A final note: Israel obviously does not want to integrate these people in Lebanon and Gaza etc. The host countries don’t want them. But most ironic of all is that the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza don’t want them either. If a Palestinian state were ever to be created, the citizens of the West Bank would riot at the thought of having a million plus poor, under-educated, unskilled people moving in. And this is one of the main reasons why a peace deal has never happened. No Palestinian leader can make such a deal to integrate the refugees - the people don’t want them. Classic NIMBY syndrome.
