A campaign aimed at raising money for a border wall on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe has raised more than $4 million of its $1 billion goal in under four days.
The page, called "We The People Will Fund The Wall," was started by Brian Kolfage, a Purple Heart recipient and triple amputee who lost his legs and an arm during a rocket attack in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The campaign was launched earlier this week with a goal of raising $1 billion to donate to the construction of a wall along the southern border of the U.S. Funding for the wall, a major campaign promise of President Donald Trump, has come under questioning in recent weeks as Trump first hard-lined funding negotiations, then retreated.
Trump threatened a partial government shutdown if Congress couldn't pass a budget that included funding for the wall, which Democrats staunchly opposed. He later backed down from the threat, saying he'd find funding another way and allowing for the passage of a funding bill that'd avert a shutdown. Advertisement
Kolfage said it's now "our duty as citizens" to raise money for a border wall. In three days, the campaign has raised more than $4 million from nearly 70,000 donors.
"Like a majority of those American citizens who voted to elect President Donald J Trump, we voted for him to Make America Great Again," Kolfage wrote in the campaign. "President Trump's main campaign promise was to BUILD THE WALL. And as he's followed through on just about every promise so far, this wall project needs to be completed still."
Kolfage said the cap is set at $1 billion because that is all GoFundMe allows. He said he is trying to get them to raise the limit.
"If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall," he wrote. "That equates to roughly $5 billion, even if we get half, that's half the wall. We can do this."
Just knowing this is happening must be giving Trump a second wind from the pounding he’s been taking. I know he’s feeling this tremendous support.
I agree! It can also be hoped that our squishy represenatives living in their comfy bubble on the Potomac will find it harder to ignore our anger and resolve.
At 1:46 CST it hit $6M. At 3:21 CST it hit $7M.
$600K~/hr.
Just saw a $5.00 donation from.....Nancy Pelosi Bwaaaahahaha
This is surely on course to become the most successful GoFundMe campaign ever!
It’s very satisfying to see the massive participation. People should donate even if it’s only $5. It’s a vote for the wall and a repudiation of open borders.
The record collected by GoFundMe for any single entity was $21.5 mil for TIMES UP Legal Defense Fund and that was over many months.
That record should be broken in the next few days.
largest GFM was $21.25M for Times Up Legal Defense fund. Bet we can beat that
... and one for Hillary Clinton!
... but the page says GFM tells ppl not to give with name of celebrities because the donations will be returned.
I supposed if someone just enjoys getting Hillary, Nancy named on the donor list for a little while that is good enough.... then the (real) donor even gets their money back! Ofc one hopes they also give a “real” contribution separately....
At this rate, by Sunday that record will be in the rear view mirror.
Does anyone know how many feet are built per $1,000,000? Perhaps we could keep score as we follow this GFM event. Something like “Another $250,000/x number of feet built.” And keep a running total. Feet turn into miles.
If the median cost of the entire wall is used (21.5 billion) and divide that figure by ~ 2000 miles your looking at a bit over 1mil/mile.
Okay...we’ve built 7 miles of wall already. Way to go!
One thing to consider.....For every mile of wall we build it’s one less mile that the border patrol have to babysit allowing them to concentrate their resources/efforts on a progressively smaller area. This will make them both more efficient and effective.
it has been 42-48K every 5 minutes most of the afternoon...every once in a while it spikes due to a large donation (i.e. 50K about an hour ago). but 45Kish every 5 min with steady smaller donations
At $7.8M it will be the third largest GFM on record. #2 is the Las Vegas shooting fund at $11.2 ~
all other things equal... I suspect it will start to fall off a little here as people leave work .....then an uptick this evening....the BOOM after laura ingraham on Fox tonight
Th story has made it into several MSM articles so far and spreading word of mouth...
The trending banner is gone from the page. Facebook and the left wing tech cabal are fighting back
