Border Patrol agents tracked an ultralight aircraft as it crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and made it 30 miles into the country early Tuesday morning and when they got to the landing spot, they found two Chinese men who had been smuggled in by the aircraft.
The ultralight had escaped, lifting back off and returning to Mexico, but agents say they did manage to nab a Mexican man waiting in a vehicle near the landing zone in southern California, apparently ready to pick up the Chinese men and deliver them to their destination.
Experts said they had seen ultralights, small aircraft powered by lawn mower-sized engines, used to drop loads of drugs in the U.S. But they were surprised to see them being used to ferry illegal immigrants.
Its disturbing, said Chris Harris, who retired this year after a two-decade career as a Border Patrol agent in San Diego and who suggested it could be a way for cartels to get dangerous people across the border. If you want to get some operatives in this country very quickly, thats a way.
Gloria I. Chavez, chief patrol agent in the El Centro sector of the Border Patrol, agreed that ultralights pose a threat to national security.
These aircraft are able to carry small payloads of dangerous cargo or dangerous people, she said.

¡Halar!
F/A-18..buzz them low, fast, and loud. They’ll think twice.
Yes it is an invasion and I have called it that for over two decades but our government is blind to it and so far PDJT cannot conjure up the balls to put the military on the border in front of the BP with orders to SHOOT.
my bad, shoulda pinged ya...
12 gage 3” magnum full choke w/ 000 buck shot should work.
As a pilot and someone familiar with aviation, something doesnt seem right here. Ive never seen an ultralight that could carry more than two people. So they made two trips or had two planes? I like the idea posted of using a Cessna 172 with a rope and a chain or hook on it. Just go primieval on their ass!!
You try that stunt with a 172 and both craft will crash, killing everyone...and, yes, there are ultralights that can carry loads.
The 172 stunt was not my idea, but the full post that noted it offered some different ideas.
A three passenger ultralight?
Show me.
The article clearly states the smuggler used a two-seater ultralight, but was carrying two Chinese nationals instead of a single passenger.
The closest might be an Aircam that can haul three people, but it needs two Rotax engines to do it and gets above the FAA classification of an ultralight -
In the picture there is a cover over the the third seat.
Im not getting in that three seat ultralite!!
I prefer certified and experimental, or helicopters!!
lol
Big shock there.
The cartels have been using ultralights to bring drugs over the border since the mid 80’s. I have seen it happen.
DC hasn’t given a damn ever until Trump got into town.
At that size/weight it is an Experimental with a FAA N-number.
I've flown in the front of one with the instructor/owner in the second seat and it was a hoot to fly... :^)
He said they rarely use the third seat since it's too windy back there - but what the heck if you are carrying illegals...
ping
Just fly over them, slow, full flaps. The down wash will take them out.
