Over 100 journalists were killed during performing their professional duties in 2018, the non-governmental organization Press Emblem Campaign (PEC). The largest number of casualties among media employees was recorded in Afghanistan (17 killed), Mexico (17).

I was a journalist in So. Vietnam and Cambodia (where several American journalists were missing and later found murdered by the VC and Khmer Rouge, plus one So. Korean journalist whose national identity we covered up by listing him as Japanese. The commies liked the Japanese and hated the So. Koreans.
Walter Cronkite was the head of the organization something like the Committee for the Protection of Journalists”. We all signed the petition to Hanoi and the VC, trying to save the So. Korean’s life. I think he was killed despite our efforts.
