No, that was El Chichon!

It make the sky a mess for several years. It was important to amateur astronomers in SE United States.

I remember something similar in grade school.

A boy was walking and found a hole that spewed a rock and threw a rock back at it.

You're most welcome! I'd not a clue what the title of it was, but recognized the cover immediately, that's crazy eidetic memory for ya.

When you slide, do you just use the seat of the pants, or use a snowboard or something?.

It’s a fascinating video.

I lent it to a homeschooling friend of ours whose husband was a PhD in geology and he even showed it to his students in class.

From the documentary, according to the commander @ Clark AFB, General Studer, he and the last group evacuated Clark after one of the geologists ran by the General and said “General, you’d better put jam in your pockets ‘cause we’re all about to be toast......”

I can't find mention of it, either. I'd been listening to something on youtube, multiple topics with climate change being one of them. It was a woman and a man talking anout CO2 actually being a coolant rather than a heat causing greenhouse gas. The woman mentioned a huge eruption in the Philipines, and how the gas and dust from volcanos also diflects heat and cools the earth. I may have incorrectly surmised that the volcano was over the weekend since they talked about incteasing frequency of volcanos. Anyway, it was supposed to be a new recording, and I listened to it before Popo erupted. Yhey were discussing current events and corruption so tje climate change was a part of the corruption issues. I dunno. There are 20 some odd active volcanos in the area, I forget how many inactive ones. I thought this volcano was somewhere near Krakatoa..not sure of that's sprlled correctly. Maybe I dreamed it. My dreams can be that vivid and realistic 😄

The “huge” eruption in Philippines would be Mt. Pinatubo, back in 1991. See the documentary referenced upthread - it’s an excellent “watch”.

Not all volcanos, even of nominally similar energy, have the same atmospheric effects: Location (obviously), amount and height of ash injection into the atmosphere, and amount and type of gas releases can all vary greatly, and have correspondingly varying effects. Also, I suspect ash would generally have a shorter term effect than gases released, unless a major cycle was “triggered” — but I may be wrong about that.

You beat me to it

It was in Weekly Reader in early to mid 60s at my grade school

From cornfield to 200 feet high in less than a week

Topped out at 1300

A Scoria cone or something like that

I wonder if Mexico compensated the town it covered
