Records show Saripkin, a business man, was convicted for a third sex crime in 2013, in Mississippi, for “inappropriately touching a child as a person of trust,” KAIT reports.

Prior to his most recent Mississippi conviction, he was convicted in Tennessee of statutory rape in 1997 and with sexual battery in 1990.

Chamber members told WMC-TV they knew Saripkin is a sex offender. They said Saripkin has done a lot for the town. They said what he has done in the past is not what counts, but what he is doing now.

The chamber said in a statement that Saripkin was riding in a private vehicle in the parade that was driven by a member of the chamber.
