SYDNEY, Australia Australia announced on Saturday that it now recognizes West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and will move its Tel Aviv embassy once a peace settlement is reached.
Australia now recognizes West Jerusalem, being the seat of the Knesset and many of the institutions of government, is the capital of Israel, Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australian said on Saturday.
It is the right of every country to determine its national capital, Mr. Morrison said in a speech to the Sydney Institute, a public affairs forum.
We look forward to moving our embassy to West Jerusalem when practical, in support of and after final status determination, he added.
The announcement makes Australia one of a handful of countries to recognize part of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and represents a change in the countrys long-held policy on the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
The move follows the lead of President Trump who formally acknowledged the city as Israels capital last year and moved the United States embassy there in May.

but there is no such place as “West Jerusalem”
the nice Aussies may as well just stay in Tel Aviv
Baby steps.
Without Trump, they wouldn’t even have gone this far.
A peace settlement? When pigs fly!
Thanks for nothing, cowards.
Embarrassingly babyish steps. The noble Western Australian regiment of Light Horsemen would be mortified by this cowardly baby step
Israel should reciprocate and recognize West Canberra as the capital of Australia.
Ha!
They’re half right, but Jerusalem (ALL of it) is Israel’s capital.
Now the HezboCrats will throw another tantrem.
The only time peace will be possible in Jerusalem and everywhere else is when Jesus returns and ends man’s law on earth.
This is not new or good.
They are saying they will not recognize Jerusalem (the whole thing) as the capital, and they are demanding that Israel give half of Israel to its enemies.
