A four-legged officer not only helped his human colleagues track down a suspected killer, but also took a bullet to the head, DeKalb County police said Friday.
The K-9 officer, Indi, is expected to lose an eye as a result of his work on last nights DeKalb police confrontation that left an officer dead.
Despite his severe injuries, its possible Indi could eventually return to duty, Chief James Conroy said Friday.
The dog was very helpful in apprehending and locating the subject in this case, Conroy said.
That subject, Brandon Taylor, is accused of running from Officer Edgar Flores and then firing multiple gunshots, killing the 24-year-old officer Thursday evening. When Indi came upon Taylor, he was also shot before other officers shot and killed Taylor.

Great dog.
This is one of those pix I have a very hard time assessing whether he is a BelMal or a GS.

Looks like a German Shepherd to me. That was my guess before going to the article.

I’m going with Mal based on the lighter muzzle structure and ear size/placement.
Whichever he is, he’s a ~good~ boy.

I’d tend to go with that because of the coloring - he MAY only be light-colored on top of the body (while having dark points on all under-edges, odd for a GS), which means no question, BelMal.
Yet, the ears are very big to me - GS - and the structure of the face looks a bit too bulky - GS.

He’s apparently a Mal, see photo below.
Beautiful good boy.

Look at all that hardware the cop is carrying on his vest and harness; wow.

K9 Officer
If they kill your dog, no problem.
If you kill their dog, its a crime.
To: Cecily
If Indi lost an eye, can he be retired to go home with his handler to spend the rest of his days? I certainly hope so. Good boy!

Yes, in that photo his face looks more refined (Collie-like) as a Belgian of all types would be.

They gave The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon a Mal.
The fans have already lost their minds over him and pledged eternal fealty to Dog.
