There is definitely no majority for a hard Brexit. The total destruction of the British economy is not a popular choice among people with stakes in that economy.
That’s certainly true. No hard Brexit will occur. But their issue is somewhat similar to ours - a border dispute.
The left doesn’t want to return to an actual border between Ireland and Northern Ireland now that it’s become an open border under the EU. The right doesn’t like the suggested “backstop” which would bind the UK to a customs treaty they can’t exit from without EU approval. That’s sort of like giving Trump the money for the wall but making it impossible for it to actually be built without the approval of Nancy Pelosi.
The obvious solution is to return to an actual border and let the EU shove their backstop up their backsides.
