Ocasio-Cortez understands the promise of a 'Green New Deal'
CNN ^ | 12/11/18 | Michelle Romero, Van Jones

(CNN) Right-wing media outlets seem to be waging a coordinated campaign to portray US Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a dimwit radical. Their efforts will backfire. She is in fact championing the smartest, most practical idea in US politics to address two urgent problems: climate change and poverty.

Ocasio-Cortez, along with a growing number of Democratic colleagues, is asking Rep. Nancy Pelosi to create a select committee on a "Green New Deal" -- comprehensive legislation for a mass mobilization of people and resources toward solutions to the climate crisis. If Pelosi agrees, the congressional committee could develop a plan to improve the economy and the environment within a year.

In 2007, Pelosi established a select committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming; it played a role in the creation of the 2007 energy bill, a 2009 stimulus package that included funds for energy efficiency and other environmental provisions, and the 2009 Waxman-Markey bill, which would have established emissions caps and implemented a system for trading emissions allowances, was passed by the House but never acted upon by the Senate. A select committee on a Green New Deal could allow congressional Democrats to pick up where they left off after Republicans disbanded the former committee in 2011 when they took control of the House.

I wouldn’t trust Van Jones to pick up the plastic bags Mother Nature delivers here in N Nevada on a regular basis.

Frankly, if they could get the people on welfare to actually work, even if it was for silly things that are not cost-effective, at least we would be moving people from the idea that the world owes them a life, to some kind of self-sufficiency.

Usually they just want rich people to pay for everything.

If you want to keep the US green, and preserve open spaces, then stop illegal immigration, and decrease legal immigration, to return us to our more normal population growth.

It takes no effort to portray her as a dimwit radical. Her own babbling does it quite effectively.

There is absolutely no need to portray this woman as a dimwitted radical.

Her own self-portrayal already has the dimwit and the radical parts covered.

We don't have to do a thing but sit back and watch as hilarity breaks out.

My brother told me yesterday that when Alexandria Ocasio Cortex was asked about Roe versus Wade, she said that’s the only two ways the Mexicans can cross the river.

I wouldn´t necessarilycall her a dim witted radical but instead I would call her a totally witless and tip stealing radical.

Almost spit coffee on the keyboard...Pelosi would probably say the trillions they were stealing from us to put into their "We fooled them on Globull Warming" slush funds generate mega trillions in economic growth....

That look clearly says, “I don’t have brains enough to pour water out of a boot if the directions were printed on the heel.”
