GOP Fails Pro-Life Voters by Refusing to Defund Planned Parenthood

As the final weeks of the GOP-controlled Congress draw to a close, pro-life voters look on with great disappointment at the Republican politicians who failed to follow through on their most crucial promise: to defund Planned Parenthood. In about a month, Democrats will take over the House of Representatives and any hope of stripping the abortion giant of federal funding will pass away.

With precious little time left in the lame-duck session, GOP congressional leaders have chosen to ignore the persistent urgings of pro-life leaders. Just last week, leaders from Live Action, Students for Life America, the Susan B. Anthony List, Heritage Foundation and the March for Life sat down with White House officials to remind them of the paramount campaign promise that catapulted this administration to victory.

Their instructions for President Donald Trump were clear: veto any budget proposal that includes funding for Planned Parenthood.

In separate letters sent to the president, Live Action President Lila Rose and Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins pleaded with Trump not to let millions of pro-life Americans down by compromising on what is for many the number-one reason they voted Republican.

While Trump has threatened to veto a proposal that compromises on his agenda, House Republicans have made it clear that they will not cede ground when it comes to Planned Parenthood, according to Politico. Alice Miranda Ollstein notes that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz “briefly tried — and failed — to rally support for one last bid to push through Planned Parenthood cuts, Obamacare repeal and other conservative priorities,” but most of his Republican colleagues dismissed these concerns amid fears of a government shutdown over Trump’s border wall.

“They had two years to defund Planned Parenthood, and they failed,” Kristan Hawkins, whose organization Students for Life has campaigned for and helped fund pro-life GOP candidates, said, according to Politico. “It’s a huge frustration. We worked so hard to elect supposedly these pro-life Republican officials, and we expected results.”

In light of GOP politicians’ expressed fears of a government shutdown, Conservative Review’s Chris Pandolfo offers some pro-life perspective:

"Planned Parenthood, the nation’s top provider of abortions, literally rips apart babies in the womb and sells their body parts for profit. American taxpayers are subsidizing that evil right now through the U.S. Congress. And pro-life conservatives are expected to tolerate and fund that abominable organization because shutting down 17 percent of the federal government’s operations might be politically risky?"

Pandolfo argues that the only way to ensure Planned Parenthood loses funding is to shut down the government “indefinitely” until this happens.

“The Democrats and two openly pro-abortion Republicans, Sens. Lisa Murkowksi, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, must be forced to choose between surrendering on this policy or keeping the federal government shut down indefinitely, and they must be forced to go to voters with their choice,” he writes. “Short of having that fight, there is nothing Republicans can do without a majority in the House of Representatives and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate to enact conservative policy.”

This should have been really simple. They are shouting who they are by what they DON’T do.

Remember all the votes to repeal Obamacare when they knew they couldn’t prevail? And yet when they had the power to prevail, they didn’t do it.

It’s all theater. It’s why I like my nice and quiet 32 acres in a county where I don’t even need a building permit to build, and really, REALLY low property taxes. I can live my life and they leave me alone. And I’ll be on SS soon which means I will also be starving the beast.

The GOP never intended to defund Planned Parenthood. They just bullshit the Pro Life voters so that they would vote for them. The battle cry of the GOP candidates the next election will be:"ELECT ME AND I WILL DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD"!

Recall, "ELECT ME AND I WILL REPEAL OBAMACARE"?

Anyone that believes the GOP is in for a rude awakening. Anyone who trusts the GOP is asking for a heartbreak.

#1. Trump, but he doesn’t control the purse. He is gathering evidence to take down the DS, and many have not run for congress again, but who replaced them? Clones? We do have the senate. We need SCOTUS. Roe has to be overturned.

Lisa Murkowski & Susan Collins never promised this - indeed just the opposite - therefore no majority exists in the Senate to pass this.

Moreover, once again, ***there is no line-item in the budget funding Planned Parenthood.*** Repeat: There is no line-item in the budget funding Planned Parenthood. It does not exist. Issuing funds to Planned Parenthood is a decision of the executive branch.

Wow! I’m STUNNED! Guess I’ll look into the history of the executive branch. Any leads?

I was researching the study done by the House in 2015...2015! Let’s see, 3k abortions a day...

https://www.gop.gov/solution_content/plannedparenthood/

In 2015, videos were uncovered featuring senior level Planned Parenthood officials admitting unethical and potentially illegal procedures should be of great concern to every America. The practices described in these videos are despicable, and Planned Parenthood should be forced to defend their content.

Three House Committees – Energy and Commerce, Judiciary, and Oversight – immediately launched an aggressive investigation of these videos. Learn more about the House’s ongoing work into the abhorrent practices of Planned Parenthood: [timeline]

Final [long] report:

6 Alarming Findings in House Panel’s Planned Parenthood Probe
January 04, 2017

Planned Parenthood affiliates profited by transferring parts of aborted babies to outside organizations in violation of the law, a special House panel has concluded after a yearlong investigation.

In a 418-page report released Wednesday, the House Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives also found that other organizations involved in the transfer of fetal tissue broke federal or state law. [so LOCK THEM UP!]

https://www.dailysignal.com/2017/01/04/6-alarming-findings-from-house-planned-parenthood-probe/

In light of disturbing videos that emerged in July detailing fetal tissue procurement among Planned Parenthood facilities and affiliates, the Oversight and Government Reform Committee launched an investigation into the use of federal funds surrounding transactions involving fetal tissue. [They wrote letters - not to the DOinJ.]

*****************

Washington, D.C—House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the following statement in response to Planned Parenthood’s intention to end its acceptance of reimbursements for fetal tissue donations:

“While Planned Parenthood has stated its intention to end its practice of accepting reimbursements for fetal tissue donation, it has not stated its commitment to end its horrific practice of harvesting fetal tissue. This announcement by Planned Parenthood does not change the focus of the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into Planned Parenthood’s practice of procuring fetal tissue as it relates to the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Actand the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood’s recent announcement certainly does not excuse the horrific practices brought to light in the videos released by the Center for Medical Progress.”

[PP has a plan (oy) B?]

*****************

What are the committees investigating?

1. Are abortion providers profiting from the sale of fetal tissue?
2. Are abortion providers changing procedures in order to maximize the harvesting of fetal tissue?
3. Are patients giving sufficient informed consent when fetal tissue is donated?
4. Were federal laws violated and whether federal law sufficiently prohibits these barbaric acts?
5. What congressional action is necessary to further respond to these horrific acts?
6. Was the Department of Justice aware of these practices and DID IT properly enforce the laws that prevent these acts?

Legislative Action: [how considerate]

On Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. in 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing, “Protecting Infants: Ending Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Providers Who Violate the Law.” The Subcommittee will review two bills to strengthen enforcement against providers who violate the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act of 2002 and the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003.

On Friday, the House will consider H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, sponsored by Rep. Diane Black.

The House will also consider H.R. 3504, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sponsored by Rep. Trent Franks.

The House passed H.R. 3495 Women’s Public Health and Safety Act by Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI), a bill that increases states’ flexibility in determining whether individuals or entities that perform or participate in the performance of elective abortions can participate as providers in their Medicaid programs.

But it would be done back to back, defunding and then immediate refunding. It’s an absolutely empty gesture. It should have been done months ago and maybe we could have held onto a few more seats and made it stick.
