This is a mixed protest.
It started over the gas tax, but now includes a wide variety of groups, from FREXIT supporters to ANTIFA pro-communists.
Many are similar to what we saw in Sweden where the citizens want social programs only for citizens, not diluted to pay for the migrants.
Some want a more democratic and capitalistic system, but they are a very small minority.
This is not “anti-Macron” as the title says....it is anti-everything and pro-anarchy. This is how despots get to power, by rising up on the backs of diverse agendas to lead everyone to stability.

The French love socialism, free stuff. They are now out there demonstrating about the high cost in taxes required to pay for all that free stuff.
Their answer: Lower gas taxes and fix the cost of public utilities. And find someone else to pay for the all important Save the Planet initiatives.
But there is no someone else and the Fight Climate Change Movement is one of the great scams of the 21st Century.
My bet: In the short run nothing will happen that isn’t paid for by Government borrowing. In the long run some handsome disciple of Karl Marx will charm the French into voting him to office forever.
Did you notice that the French protester malcontents went from “The Yellowjackets” (badass, aggressive wasps s with a nasty stinger) to “The Yellow Vests” (a dull item of clothing suited for crossing guards).
Media characterization is deliberate, folks.
They all wanted the Paris Climate Accord when the United States would pay for it, but when it comes out of their own pockets they get mad as hell.
