James Fields will face a second, federal trial. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Justice Department charged him with 30 hate crimes in addition to his state murder charge.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement that the indictment “should send a clear message to every would-be criminal in America that we aggressively prosecute violent crimes of hate that threaten the core principles of of our nation.”

There is no reason for a Federal Charges to be sent to trial.
