There is some irony in this push for vegan food in theaters. A generation ago, the leftist health police demonized popcorn cooked in coconut oil as part of their misguided crusade against fats. What could be more vegan friendly than popcorn cooked in coconut oil?

Fifteen or 20 years ago, the wife of the owner of the Harkins' theater chain--the theaters are primarily located in Arizona--decided that, with the opening of new and newly-decorated theaters, the chain should start selling some new foods including vegan and gourmet foods. She had some encouragement from the vegans and hoity-toities.
After a year or so of trying, the theaters went right back to the popcorn, hot dogs, nachos, Milk Duds, and so forth. Their finances were reeling from the experiment.
