The worst thing you could possibly have in society is idle wealth.

Rich people aren’t satisfied because they want to do even more. Society progresses mainly because of the things rich people invest in.

This quote/conclusion is a lie repeated lazily: from the Atlantic’s writeup of the study that is then quoted from to here.

Go to the original source, online, and you find that a majority of respondents at all income levels said 50% or less. Moreover, a clear plurality at all levels, including over 40% at the highest level, said ‘none’.

The table, Table 10, is on page 41 of this report, and the lame excusing away of that major result is in the analysis on page 15:

A resurgence of Christian philanthropy is what we should beseech of God — and we should also pray readiness for the spiritual battles that will accompany it. The devil won’t let go without a fight, sometimes a stiff one.

The Key to Unhappiness - Denis Prager (5½ minutes, but a jewel)
Prager makes the case pretty well that happiness is gratitude, and gratitude is happiness. Therefore to the extent that gratitude is a decision apart from circumstance, happiness is, too.
